The Nyasunas in the eye of a storm over recovered relief food in the family house

Shock as police in Muhoroni Sub-County recovered relief food meant for the vulnerable in the constituency at the home of former Kisumu County Council Chairman, the late Johana Nyasuna.

The late Nyasuna was the father of Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, Muhoroni parliamentary aspirant Robert Nyasuna, and Masogo Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Habil Nyasuna.

The emerging question was who among the three could have been behind the diversion of the relief food meant for the vulnerable in Muhoroni Constituency.

The police in Muhoroni arrested the storekeeper and the driver of the lorry, and they were assisting with investigations into the theft.

In the police report, it read: “Kisumu County, Muhoroni Sub-County, Masogo Police Station, recovery of relief food.”

In the police occurrence book No. 06/12/2026, the police, acting on intelligence, raided the home of Nyasuna at Ngere Kagoro Sub-Location and recovered relief food stored in a house.

“The foodstuffs were meant for the Deputy County Commissioner, Muhoroni Sub-County, for distribution within Chemelil,” it read.

The police also found at the homestead a transit goods trailer which had been used to transport the consignment.

The police said they discovered that the foodstuffs had already been offloaded and stored in the house.

The questioning emerging is: on whose authority did Wangaya West Community Water and Sanitation Supply sign to have received the consignment, yet it is not a government department?

The relief food from the Ministry of Public Service, Human Capital Development and Special Programmes, State Department for Special Programmes, had allocated relief food for July for Muhoroni Sub-County.

The letter dated July 8th 2026, signed by Philip K. Tarus for the Principal Secretary, read in part: “This is to inform you that your Sub-County has been allocated relief food for free distribution to vulnerable people.”

The commodity included rice: 300 bags of 50 kgs, beans: 250 bags of 50 kgs, and uji mix: 20 bags of 25 kgs.

The DCC was required to file returns to the office on the distribution of the food and also to maintain proper records for audit purposes.

“By a copy of this letter, the Managing Director, National Cereals and Produce Board, is requested to release the food to the Deputy County Commissioner, Muhoroni Sub-County,” it read.

Ponty Pridd Holdings will deliver the food to the NCPB depot in Kisumu.

Attempts to get comments from the Nyasunas were unsuccessful as they did not answer calls or respond to SMS.
