Macalder Kanyarwanda Ward Member of the County Assembly (MCA) and 2027 Nyatike parliamentary aspirant Felix Okwanyo has distributed foodstuffs and assorted items worth KSh 2 million to all 150 examination centres across Nyatike Constituency to support candidates sitting their national examinations.
The donation, targeting approximately 14,000 candidates, is intended to supplement schools’ food budgets and ease the burden on parents during the examination period.
Speaking at Wath Ong’er in Nyatike during the distribution exercise, Okwanyo said the initiative would help schools provide a conducive environment for candidates to concentrate on their examinations without unnecessary disruptions.

He noted that Nyatike, being part of the semi-arid region of Migori County, faces economic challenges that make it difficult for some households to provide basic necessities, including food, consistently.
“Some parents are struggling to provide even the basic necessities for their children. Through this donation, we want to offer them some relief and ensure that our candidates remain settled in school and concentrate on their examinations,” said Okwanyo.
He added that supporting learners during the national examination period was a shared responsibility that required collective efforts from leaders and other stakeholders.
Okwanyo also called on fellow leaders to emulate the initiative by supporting learners and their families, saying practical interventions would help ease the pressure on already overburdened households.
“I urge other leaders to come forward and support our students and their parents during this important period. Our children deserve encouragement and the necessary support to sit their examinations with confidence,” he said.
The food items were received by the heads of the 150 institutions designated as examination centres, ahead of the commencement of the examinations next week.

In addition to the food supplies, Okwanyo issued success cards to the candidates as a gesture of encouragement and to wish them well as they prepare to sit their examinations.
The initiative comes as schools and families make final preparations for the national examinations, with the provision of food and other basic necessities remaining an important factor in supporting learners’ welfare and concentration.
