The court has issued summons requiring West Pokot County Assembly Speaker Fredrick Kaptui Plimo and two other accused persons to appear for plea-taking on 5 November 2026, in a case involving the alleged defrauding of Eco-Pillar Sacco Society Limited of KSh 260 million.
At the same time, six co-accused persons who appeared in court were charged with related offences and pleaded not guilty.
The nine accused persons are alleged to have conspired to defraud the Sacco of the money between 2018 and 2025 through the manipulation of transaction systems, creation of fraudulent accounts and fictitious loans, and unauthorised transfers from Sacco accounts to personal bank accounts.
Those named in the case are Plimo, Linus Lokira, Paul Lokitari Ywapamoi, the Kodich Ward Member of County Assembly, Leonard Pchakas an Domoita, Nicholas Toroitich Arusho, Andrew Poriot Lorema, Susan Chesang, Florence Chemotwo and Francis Atodosia. The accused include former senior Sacco officials, among them chief executive officers, finance officers and ICT officers.
Plimo, Ywapamoi and Atodosia were absent when the matter came up in court. The court directed them to appear for plea-taking on 5 November 2026, warning that warrants of arrest may be issued if they fail to comply with the summons.
The accused face various charges, including conspiracy to defraud, stealing by servant, cheating, unauthorised interference with a computer system and abuse of office.
The six accused persons who appeared in court denied the charges. The court directed that a ruling on their bond terms be delivered on 2 November 2026. They were remanded pending the ruling.
The prosecution was led by Senior Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Patrick Okango, assisted by Faith Koech, Jairus Onkoba, Stephene Mokaya, Gregory Suter, Victor Mamati and Clinton Kere.
