Ndindi’s Influence, Both at the Bourse and in Politics

By Billy Mijungu

Have you ever heard the expression, polished in conduct, polished in execution and polished in deeds? That is the impression Ndindi Nyoro leaves: a composed, honest, receptive and action-oriented man. Soft-spoken but firm, focused yet careful, his style invites comparison with James Orengo.

Careful, perhaps, to a fault. There were moments when the political conversation seemed to be about Babu and Ndindi. Then the equation widened to Orengo, Babu and Sifuna, before political paths diverged and, in the opposition conversation, converged again around the question of a common end game. Nyoro’s measured pace in making political choices has been part of that unfolding story.

The Kiharu MP is now the leader of the People’s Party of Kenya, which joined the opposition in August 2026. His party has spoken about education, agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and public accountability as priorities. These are policy themes that place him in a national conversation extending beyond his Mount Kenya political base. The question is how consistently those proposals can be translated into workable programmes, credible financing and measurable results.

The October 2026 Swisspoll survey placed Nyoro at 4.5 per cent in presidential preference. That figure is a snapshot, not a verdict on his political future. The same survey showed a crowded field and an opposition whose support was distributed among several figures. Polls measure opinion at a particular moment; organisation, alliances, policy credibility and public engagement continue to shape the political landscape.

But Nyoro’s influence should not be assessed only through electoral numbers. There is also the economic and financial conversation. His background includes work in business and capital markets before Parliament, and his public profile has been associated with questions of budgets, resource allocation and economic management. The bourse is a different arena from electoral politics, but both reward discipline, patience, confidence and an ability to read changing conditions.

Could he become a Kenyan Warren Buffett? That is an ambitious comparison, and the market will ultimately judge any investor by performance, integrity and time. I will leave the comparison there, before someone reminds me that I, too, have made claims about myself!

In Kenya, economic credibility and political influence often meet at the negotiating table. Nyoro’s next chapter will depend on the ideas he advances, the partnerships he builds and the public record he creates. As the country debates its future, it is worth examining his contribution without mistaking potential for achievement.

His national political role remains significant.
